In a visionary move to promote sustainable economic empowerment, Safaricom Foundation has launched the Wezesha Agri-Eco Hub Project in Busia County. This transformative initiative aims to uplift over 5,000 youth by equipping them with essential skills and resources to thrive in modern agribusiness, enterprise development, and ecopreneurship.
Over the course of two years, the program—developed in collaboration with partners such as Ustadi Foundation, the Lake Basin Development Authority, Alupe University, and the County Government of Busia—focuses on empowering youth, women, and persons with disabilities through cutting-edge digital tools, practical knowledge, and market access.
The initiative emphasizes climate-smart farming, where participants learn sustainable agricultural practices to adapt to changing environmental conditions. Digital literacy plays a significant role, enabling participants to harness technology for agribusiness innovation and efficiency. The also program promotes e-commerce integration, connecting youth-led agribusinesses to broader markets through online platforms, creating sustainable income opportunities and fostering economic growth.
A highlight of the initiative is the establishment of a Centre of Excellence Demo Farm, a state-of-the-art facility that offers hands-on training in innovative agricultural techniques and green technologies. This center serves as a model for sustainable farming and inspires a new generation of agripreneurs.
Through strong partnerships and innovative approaches, Safaricom Foundation is transforming agriculture into a powerful driver of economic empowerment. The Wezesha Agri-Eco Hub sets a benchmark for inclusive, sustainable development, driving forward Kenya’s youth-focused initiatives.
This initiative reinforces Safaricom Foundation’s dedication to building resilient communities and promoting economic independence aligned with Kenya’s sustainable development goals.
